Chengdu 2021 FISU Games competition schedule released
Though summer has turned to autumn in the northern hemisphere, plans continue for next summer’s Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games. This includes the release of the competition schedule for events that will take place from 28 July – 8 August 2023.
The busiest days of the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games will be on days four and five (1 and 2 August) with 14 sports seeing competition each of those days. As far as medal events, the most will be awarded on day nine (6 August) with 46. This includes 14 medal events in athletics, 15 in rowing, as well as gold medal matches in volleyball and basketball. Athletics and swimming will have the most medal events with 50 and 42 respectively.
18 sports will make up the competition programme for the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games which have been moved to 2023 after two postponements in 2021 and 2022. Prior to student-athletes heading to Chengdu, the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games Winter will take place 12-22 January in the United States. With both FISU Games to be held, 2023 sets up to be an exciting year across the world in university sports.
The competition will actually get going prior to the opening ceremony with archery and water polo starting on 27 July and basketball on the 28th, the day of the official opening. The first medals of the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games will be handed out on day one, 29 July, with five medal events in judo, four in shooting sport, two in taekwondo, and six in wushu.
