Muntinlupa City, November 16, 2024 — The Vamonos Swimming Fiesta Class ABC and D turned the Muntinlupa Aquatic Center into a pool of thrilling action yesterday, as over 300 swimmers from 26 teams competed in an atmosphere buzzing with excitement. Not even the announcement of Super Typhoon Pepito’s landfall later in the day could dampen the spirits of the athletes, coaches, and families who gathered for the much-anticipated event.
The competition, hosted by the Vamonos Sports League under the dynamic leadership of Ms. Florence Dulce, was more than just a display of swimming prowess—it was a showcase of community strength and resilience. “This event is about more than medals,” Ms. Dulce said in her opening remarks. “It’s about fostering love for the sport and building a family within the swimming community.”
The meet opened with an inspiring prayer, the Philippine National Anthem, and welcome speeches from Ms. Dulce and Meet Director Jay Ungoco. It featured a time-standard format, with Class D swimmers competing for top-eight medals and Class ABC swimmers racing for the top-three podium spots. The event ran smoothly thanks to meticulous planning, and the swimmers’ personalized event IDs were a big hit, simplifying marshaling and easing the burden on parents and coaches.
Outstanding Performances Steal the Show
Amid tough competition, certain names stood out. Mia Lee, a rising star from Guam coached by her father Andy Lee, once again proved her Olympic potential by clinching the High Point Award for the girls’ 15-16 category. Local swimming phenoms Mikhael Jasper and Behrouz Mohammad Mojdeh dominated their events from the get-go, securing their respective High Point titles. Other standout performers included Anika Unay, Kievan Ahria Cosidon, Damian Dwayne Cupcupin, Kenzie Valle Bengson, Erin Gwyneth Monzon, Dirk Espelimbergo, Therese Anika Quinto, Elijah Ebayan, Jaztine Khloie, and John Cesar Pajaron.
“This meet shows that Filipino swimmers can go head-to-head with international athletes,” said Mr. Andy Lee, impressed by the local talent pool. “The level of competition here is incredible.”
Team Champions and Special Mentions
The San Beda Swimming Team emerged as the overall team champion, followed closely by the Ben Norski Swimming Academy, Aqua Knights of Manila, Flying Lampasot Swimming Homer, and Juggernaut Bataan Swim Team.
“Winning as a team is just as fulfilling as individual victories,” said a proud coach from San Beda. “It’s all about teamwork and perseverance.”
The event also received praise for its organization. Coaches were provided with competition kits containing IDs, programs, and raffle entries, while swimmers were treated to goodies and giveaways. Coaches sported stylish shirts from Antbox Apparel, one of Vamonos’ flagship brands alongside Regalos. A medical response team, courtesy of Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon, and reservists from the Philippine Navy ensured safety throughout the event.
Community Spirit Shines Bright
Despite his absence due to other commitments, Swim League Philippines President Fred Ancheta lauded the success of the meet. “I’m sorry I couldn’t be there,” he said, “but seeing the impact of events like this makes all the hard work worth it. Swimming is not just a sport—it’s a platform for growth and unity.”
As the swimmers and their families headed home, they carried more than medals and awards—they took with them memories of camaraderie, determination, and triumph in the face of challenges. The Vamonos Swimming Fiesta was a testament to the enduring passion of the swimming community, proving that even the threat of a typhoon couldn’t stop their momentum.
“This is the true spirit of swimming,” remarked Mr. Danny Anore, one of the meet’s lead officials. “Rain or shine, this community always shows up.”
