Marikina City, September 1, 2024—The Marikina Sports Park was abuzz with excitement as swimmers from across the region gathered yesterday for the 2nd Cong. Maan Teodoro Swim Cup, hosted by the Marikina Poseidon Swimming Club. The event marked the club’s fourth successful hosting of a swimming competition, and it did not disappoint, delivering thrilling races and exceptional performances.
The meet kicked off with a solemn prayer, followed by the singing of the national anthem. Congresswoman Maan Teodoro then took the stage, delivering heartfelt welcome and opening remarks. She extended a warm invitation to all participants to fully utilize the Marikina Swimming Pool and other facilities within the sports park. Emphasizing her support for the swimming community, she noted, “I am committed to backing not only our local swimming team but also other sports that contribute to the holistic development of our youth.” Her words were met with resounding applause, reflecting the audience’s appreciation for her continuous support.
The event was officiated by seasoned referees Mr. Danny Anore and Mr. Vic Cleofe, ensuring that the competition was conducted with the highest standards of fairness and accuracy. The day saw outstanding performances from several young athletes, with personal bests and record times being the order of the day. Notable swimmers such as Wesley Brooke Arsinas, Miesha Icban, Lourde Kalliex Santiago, Allesandra Hequibal, Jacob Michael Blanco, Makoto Nakamura, Arc Renzy Valdez, Chelsea Olesya Borja, Kean Sebastian Paragatos, Clara Yzabela Delos Santos, Sander Christian Tan, Iammejen Lopez, and Ted Laminta showcased their immense talent, earning admiration from coaches and spectators alike.
Swim League Philippines President Fred Ancheta made a special appearance in the afternoon, further energizing the meet with his presence. He brought additional giveaways for the swimmers and took the time to personally thank the coaches, recognizing their pivotal role in the growth of the swimming community. “The contributions of our coaches cannot be overstated,” Ancheta remarked. “Their dedication in nurturing and inspiring young swimmers is what fuels the now-booming swimming industry.”
One of the highlights of the day was the awarding of trophies to the top teams. The host team, Marikina Poseidon Swimming Club, emerged as the highest-ranking team with a total of 1,628.50 points. They were followed by the Lourdes School of Mandaluyong Tigersharks with 691.50 points, Rapid Dolphins Swimming Team with 656.50 points, and Sienna College of Taytay Swimming Ninjas with 640 points. These results underscored the high level of competition and the depth of talent present at the meet.
The Marikina Poseidon Swimming Club extended their gratitude to the event sponsors, including the City Government of Marikina, Neptune Actives, Vitargo, Unilab, Sunlife, Antbox, Goldseas, Swim League Philippines, Sugar Petals, and El Casa Cruz Resort. Their support was instrumental in making the event a resounding success.
As the meet came to a close, Swim League Philippines announced their upcoming events, inviting teams to participate in The Swim Battle 3 Finale on September 7 and the Philswimming Aquatic Showdown for Class ABC and Novice swimmers on October 5 at the picturesque Bosay Resort. The event, Philswimming Aquatic Showdown is also supported by the Solid Coaches Association under the leadership of President Ronald Nicdao, promise to continue the momentum of competitive swimming in the Philippines.
The 2nd Cong. Maan Teodoro Swim Cup was a day filled with remarkable achievements, camaraderie, and a shared passion for swimming. As the sun set over the Marikina Sports Park, the young athletes and their supporters left with memories of a competition that celebrated both athletic excellence and the enduring spirit of sportsmanship.
