1st Congresswoman Maan Teodoro Swim Cup Makes a Splash at Marikina Sports Center

Marikina City, September 30, 2023 – The Marikina Sports Center was a hive of excitement as the 1st Congresswoman Maan Teodoro Swim Cup unfolded on Saturday. This thrilling swimming competition, featuring a total of 265 swimmers representing 20 teams, proved to be a resounding success, thanks to the efforts of the Marikina Poseidon Swimming Club and the generous support of sponsors including Swim League Philippines, Philippine Swimming Inc., Cherifer, Unilab, Neptune Actives and the Marikina City Government.

The event kicked off with Swim League President Fred Galang Ancheta, who delivered a rousing opening address, emphasizing unity and the power of collective effort with the event’s motto, “United We Swim.” The crowd was further electrified when Congresswoman Maan Teodoro gave a warm welcome and officially signaled the start of the competition. She also took a moment to reflect on the remarkable journey of the host team, which started with just 8 swimmers in 2012 and has now grown to a remarkable 106 members.

The Marikina Poseidon Swimming Club, led by its head coach Mar Joseph Casas, played the gracious host, extending a warm welcome to all participating swimmers and coaches. To keep the athletes fueled for their races, free meals were provided, and every first-place finisher in each heat received a complimentary hotdog.

The competition was fierce, but in the end, it was the Marikina Poseidon Swimming Club that emerged as the champions, amassing a total of 1,211 points. The Manila Stags Swim Team secured the first runner-up position with 647.50 points, while the Flying Lampasot Swim Homer clinched the second runner-up spot with 613.50 points.

The standout swimmers of the event were recognized and celebrated. Among the notable female swimmers were Alessandra Hequibal (Girls 7-8 years old), Rica Jane Ansale (9-10 years old), Lahj Naveen Torino (11-12 years old), Keisha Blair Asturiano (13-14 years old), Clara Ysabella Delos Santos (15-16 years old), and Judith Margarette Morrison (17 years and over). In the boys’ division, the top performers were Lourde Santiago (6 and under years old), Cyrion Cayco (7-8 years old), Arc Renzy Valdez (9-10 years old), Jose Camomot III (11-12 years old), Kevin Bryle Chan (13-14 years old), Kobie Rivera (15-16 years old), and Nimord Montera (17 and over years old).

All Most Outstanding Swimmers were honored with trophies, medals, and stuffed toys as tokens of their exceptional achievements.

The event was expertly officiated by Mr. Danilo Anore, ensuring fairness and accuracy in all competitions.

Coach Mar Joseph Casas expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all participants, sponsors, and supporters, promising an even grander event for the 2nd Congresswoman Maan Teodoro Swimming Cup in the future.

The 1st Congresswoman Maan Teodoro Swim Cup was not only a showcase of talent but also a testament to the spirit of unity and determination that drives the world of swimming in Marikina City and beyond. With its tremendous success, the event has set a high standard for future swimming competitions in the region, promising even greater excitement and excellence in the years to come.
